About Me
Hi, I’m Judy Distel, and I’m a freelance copywriter. I write blogs, emails, sales copy, and marketing content for B2B and B2C companies in the pet industry.
I’ve been an animal lover my whole life. I’ve cared for and trained a variety of animal companions, both big and small.
As a wild, little curly-haired girl, I’d spend my time rolling in the grass with my dog, Curly. What a great dog and friend she was! She was part Australian Shepherd and keeping her fur tag-free was a full-time job. Wherever I went, she went. We were inseparable. She would even run along with me when I went on horseback rides through the hills.
My family raised horses, sheep, cows, goats, chickens, rabbits, and geese…for the record, geese are mean. I still hear the hissing.
My horse, Pete, was the best horse a girl could ever dream of! He was a beautiful bay, mostly Thoroughbred that I got when he was three years old. As I was spending my teen years riding everywhere, my little dog Spicy would try to keep up. She never could. I couldn’t bear to leave her behind, so I put her in my shirt and tied it tight to my stomach. Her ears flopping to the motion of the horse was so funny, I’d giggle to the point of nearly falling off. They were a couple of my favorites in a long parade of beloved animals whose lives I have shared and mourned.
Now I take care of two wonderful sibling cats – Micah and Missy. I rescued them during the beginning of the pandemic and Micah has become my writing buddy. Throughout my life, I’ve always had an animal companion…

My passion in life has always been my family, my animals, and my writing.
In college, I graduated with an Associate of Science in Animal Science. My favorite classes were the horse training and creative writing courses. Part of the learning in creative writing was researching different styles of writing. And the one way to understand that was to read as much as I could. So, I did! I would read anything I could get my hands on, even trashy novels.
One of my early jobs was at a farm store where I managed the animal health department. I got to research and recommend all the different feeds and take care of the chicks and rabbits.
During my breaks, I would read or write. I’d research pet food, pet toys, and any pet-related products. Then I’d move on to pet behavioral issues, their causes, and their solutions. I’d write about chewing, barking, and even pooping.
Do you know people who take their pets everywhere, even places they shouldn’t? I’d research and write about that. It breaks my heart to hear about animals who die in hot cars because their owner couldn’t bear to leave them home! If they only knew the benefits of crate training and how to help their furry friend be comfortable at home, tragedy may have been averted.
When I left the farm store, I got a job as a mail carrier. It’s been a remarkable career that has provided for my family and helped me raise my children on a “hobby farm.” It has given us the time and resources to be involved in 4-H, where they raised animals. 4-H is a wonderful place for kids to learn how to care for animals, keep records and learn leadership skills. I was a leader for several years and helped kids learn how to research and write the essays needed to describe their projects.
After 16 years as a mail carrier, I decided to go into management and became a postmaster. This role has helped me develop my communication skills. I’ve acquired new skills like computer programs, project management, team building and have become a logistics expert…

Digital marketing has evolved from the days of extensive sales letters and aggressive sales tactics. Businesses require a consistent flow of NEW material, such as:
- Daily emails
- Ongoing social media posts
- Informational videos
- New, fresh, relevant, searchable content they can post on their websites
- Copy relevant to special offers and promotions
And much more!
Before transitioning from my current job, I spent a lot of time researching and learning about the copywriting industry. I’ve completed American Writers & Artists Institute (AWAI) ‘s Method program. I understand direct marketing and deliver copy that increases click rates, conversions, and customer base.
This, combined with my management and communication skills, puts me in a unique position to assist pet-related businesses.
My goal is to bring pet lovers and the companies who care for them together to benefit the entire pet universe!
